A Danville City Council committee is expected to approve a resolution Tuesday evening hiring an engineering firm to prepare plans for improvements at Garfield Park and the municipal swimming pool.
The pool has not been open this summer because of some concerns raised last year about its condition.
If the Public Works Committee, and then the full Danville City Council approves a Professional Services Agreement with Farnsworth Group, Inc. the final design phase for the upgrades is expected to be done early next year. But the pool would remain closed again next summer since the pool upgrades are not expected to be completed until March of 2023.
Future plans call for possibly acquiring some residential and commercial property near the pool to expand Garfield Park. And in addition to improvements to the pool, plans call for a new asphalt parking lot for the pool and improving signage to let the public know what is located in the park.
