COVID cases have taken a sharp jump in Vermilion County, and the county has also recorded another COVID-related death. Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Douglas Toole reported late Tuesday that 146 new cases have been diagnosed in the county. He says a woman in her 80s is the county’s latest resident to die a COVID-related death.
Children are a large part of the latest cases. Of the 146 new cases, seven are infants, two are toddlers, three pre-school age children, and thirteen grade school aged children, along with twenty-two teenagers and nineteen in their twenties. The others include fifteen people in their thirties, ten in their forties, sixteen in their fifties, thirteen in their sixties, eight who are in their seventies, twelve in their eighties, and six in their nineties.
Toole says there are currently 16 Vermilion County residents with COVID who are hospitalized. And there are currently 283 known active cases of COVID in the county.
Due to the HIGH transmission status in the county, the Vermilion County Health Department is recommending that everyone, despite whether they have been vaccinated, should wear a mask when indoors.
‘’We are encouraging our community to get vaccinated, to get tested, to stay home when they are sick, and to wear face masks,’’ said Toole.
SHIELD Illinois saliva COVID testing is taking place each Wednesday at the Vermilion County Health Department office at 200 South College Street in Danville. The tests are offered from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. (Appointments are recommended but not required.)
