Indiana State Police have released additional information regarding the fatal shooting of a man on August 5th by Parke County Sheriff’s Police. The autopsy and forensic evidence has revealed that 35-year-old Chad Fiscus of Rockville did die as the result of a gunshot wound from a law enforcement officer.
The investigation is on-going, but State Police say they were told the shooting occurred after Parke County Deputies responded to a domestic situation between Fiscus and his father. Deputies say upon arrival Fiscus immediately began shooting at them with an assault rifle – shooting in excess of thirty rounds at them.
Parke County Sheriff Justin Cole requested State Police release additional information about the incident – including the name of the Deputy who fired the shot which killed Fiscus during the exchange of gunfire. Although the deputy’s name has been released, our News Department’s policy is to withhold the officer’s name unless they are charged with wrongdoing. Sheriff Cole says that officer remains on administrative leave, which is customary in officer-involved shootings.
Indiana State Police say it is an active and ongoing investigation. And once the investigation has been completed, State Police Detectives will submit a full report of the incident to the Parke County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
State Police remind the public that under the law, criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
