Danville Police say a 47-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening (August 11, 2021). Police Commander Joshua Webb says after talking to witnesses and reviewing a surveillance video, it appears the vehicle intentionally struck the 47-year-old woman plus another female who is 18.
Police responded shortly after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to the area of Edgewood Drive and Fowler Avenue. When officers arrived they located the victims in a courtyard area of the 1600 block of Edgewood. Both women were suffering from multiple injuries from being struck by a vehicle. The vehicle left the scene but was located a short while later. The 24-year-old who was driving the vehicle…Shawana S. Highler of Danville, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and reckless conduct. It was later that police learned the 47-year-old had died of her injuries.
Commander Webb says the 18-year-old victim remained hospitalized and was last reported in stable condition. Names of the 47-year-old woman who died, and 18-year-old who remained hospitalized, have not been released.
Police say their investigation revealed there had been an altercation between several people and the driver of the vehicle before the two victims were hit.
