Vermilion County has recorded its 156th COVID-related death. The Vermilion County Health Department reported Friday afternoon that the latest victim is a man in his nineties.
County Health Administrator Douglas Toole says there are currently 18 county residents who are hospitalized with COVID. And as of late Friday there were 320 active COVID cases in the county.
Toole adds 71 new positive cases of COVID have been diagnosed in Vermilion County. He says they include two residents in their eighties, three in their seventies, six in their sixties, five in their fifties, and fourteen in their forties. The other newly-diagnosed COVID cases in Vermilion County include thirteen people in their thirties, nine in their twenties, fourteen teenagers, four grade-school-aged children, and one infant.
Of the 71 new cases reported Friday, twelve of them told Health Department representatives they had already been fully vaccinated for protection from COVID. Six of the eighteen people who are hospitalized were already fully vaccinated.
Toole reminds Vermilion County residents that vaccinations save lives. The Health Department is encouraging citizens to get vaccinated, get tested, and to stay home when they are sick. Also, wear a face mask.
