Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden has released the name of the woman who died after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening (August 11, 2021). The Coroner says the victim is 47-year-old Donna L. Denson of Danville. Police say Denson died after being struck by a hit and run driver on Edgewood Drive. An 18-year-old female was also struck by the vehicle, and was last reported in stable condition.
Danville Police arrested 24-year-old Shawana S. Highler on charges of being the hit and run driver after officers interviewed witnesses and reviewed a surveillance tape. Highler was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and reckless conduct.
Danville Police and the Vermilion County Coroner continue to investigate the incident. Police say their initial investigation revealed there had been an altercation between several people and the driver of the vehicle before the two victims were struck.
