Vermilion County has recorded its third COVID-related death this week. The Vermilion County Health Department reported late Tuesday that a man in his sixties is the latest county resident to die from the illness. It takes the Vermilion County death toll to 159 since the pandemic began.
Also Tuesday, County Health Administrator Douglas Toole reported 41 new cases of COVID have been diagnosed in the county. The new cases include one resident in their 80s, one in their 70s, four in their 60s, twelve in their 50s, seven in their 40s, six in their 30s, and four in their 20s. The other new cases are four teenagers, and two grade-school-aged children. The new cases raise the total number of positive cases diagnosed in Vermilion County to 10,919 (since the pandemic started).

There are currently 30 Vermilion County residents with COVID who are hospitalized and 293 known active cases of COVID in the county (as of late Monday, August 17, 2021).
Of the 41 new cases reported Monday, six of them said they had already been fully vaccinated for protection from COVID.
