Danville Area Community College President Stephen Nacco says it is amazing what he is seeing at the college this fall. One-hundred percent of the students who applied for a scholarship are getting one, or more…
{”It’s a testament to the generosity of the people in this community at levels I’ve never seen. And I’ve been in communities in New Jersey – where very wealthy, affluent, Jersey Shore people – not half as generous as the people I see in the working class Danville. It’s just amazing to me what goes on here.”}
DACC Foundation Executive Director Tonya Hill told College Trustees the number of applications for scholarships is down this year. There were 429 applications last year compared to 316 this year. As of Thursday Hill said the DACC Foundation had awarded over $698-thousand dollars this year. Hill said she used to think it would be nice if everyone who applied would get something, ‘’and now it’s come true.’’
Hill told DACC Trustees Thursday that three years ago the Foundation’s total assets were $14-million dollars. Now, she says the assets are $23-million dollars thanks to the generosity of those who support the college.
Danville Area Community College students who receive scholarships through the DACC Foundation will get to meet their donor at the annual DACC Foundation Honors Program on September 17th at 10:30 a.m. in the Mary Miller Gym. . The Foundation will hold its annual Donor Recognition Dinner on October 22nd.
