Danville American Legion Post 210 honored its oldest member Friday evening with a birthday party. Marvin Isenhower of Rossville is 100. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on an LST…a ship specially designed to transport and deploy troops and equipment onto foreign shores.
During an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News, Isenhower spoke proudly of the job he did loading shells during combat missions in the area of the Philippines….

Isenhower said there was just one time he got scared while serving during the war…
Audio Player{‘’The only time I got scared was midnight when they were going up to the Philippines. Jap planes was flying over us. And later-on we found out they was empty. They had already been to their base and come back empty….I tell you, it scares you.’’}
Isenhower was 22 when he joined the Navy in 1944. He received an Honorable medical discharge after serving sixteen months overseas.
