A Danville High School senior told school board members Wednesday night that it’s time to revisit the District’s dress code. Laynie Ferriman says the current dress code is outdated….
{AUDIO: ”I work hard in my classes, do many extra-curriculars, and even go as far as tutor other students. Yet I have been removed from a test and sent to the refocus room because of dress code. If you didn’t know refocus is comparable to in-school suspension.”}
Ferriman said she believes her clothes are proper for school yet she has been disciplined for violating the dress code…
{AUDIO: ”The current rule for shirts, skirts and dresses is that they should be an inch below the fingertips. This rule is not applicable to all body types. As some people have longer arms than others, or vice-versa. After looking around at other school districts – such as Bismarck, Oakwood, Urbana, and Salt Fork, it became clear to me that we are behind the times of modifying our dress code.”}
School Board Vice President Shannon Schroeder congratulated Ferriman on her presentation, but there was no word on whether the school board plans to re-open discussions on dress.
