Danville Library Foundation Director Peter Blackmon was a guest with WDAN’s Linda Bolton on NewsMakers on Friday (August 27, 2021). Blackmon said when he first was approached about considering leading the foundation, he realized that the challenge of doing more for the Danville Public Library, and getting more people involved, was something he wanted to experience.
{AUDIO: But actually casting a wider net in terms of the people that we touch with the foundation, getting out and branding the foundation and doing a whole new concept of marketing and reaching out to a much, much broader audience. This was something I was hungry for.}
Blackmon says that when the landscaping around the library started to struggle because of all the effects of the pandemic on labor being available, the foundation was able to say, “Wait a Minute, let’s keep this simple.” And the Foundation stepped in to make the outdoors around the library look better. That effort, he says, is continuing.
{AUDIO: We came in and said ‘you know what? We’ve got this…we’ve got this. We can help. You don’t have to write a grant for it, let us just do this.’ It’s visible and it shows that the money, you know the money they donate, is working.}
