Danville’s Labor Day Parade is set to go on Monday morning. Connie Ostrander of the Vermilion County Federation of Labor says everyone can have a good time, but please keep in mind pandemic precautions as well.
AUDIO: The mask requirement is for indoors. However, if our participants or individuals prefer to use masks or individual precautions that is perfectly alright. We’ll be throwing out some candy as normal but we will be watching what we do a little bit more with precautions, you know, with the pandemic, such as masking or some of us may have gloves on.
As for guests in this year’s parade, it’s everyone from servicemen, to super heroes.
AUDIO: Special guest Captain America will be joining us. We have lots of Veterans groups as this point. The Patriot Riders, as well as, I believe they’re called the Freedom Riders, will be participating in this year’s parade. We gave businesses from all over Vermilion County that come and help us celebrate Labor Day
And then, of course, this year’s grand marshall: Mr. David Kietzman. He’s a Vermilion County native who recently retired after giving 50 years to Danville Junior College and then Danville Area Community College, and set a great example along the way when it comes to hard work and dedication.
AUDIO: He started out working at Western Electric as a computer programmer. Then he was hired by DJC as a lab tech and instructor in 1970, which is Danville Junior College. From there he served as the lead instructor in the Computer Arts Department. He become a college administrator in 1985, and he started facilitating the Danville Labor Management Council back in 1986.
Once again, the Labor Day Parade in Danville will step off at about 9:30 AM Monday morning at North Vermilion and Williams, and head towards the intersection of Vermilion and Main Street.
