As we reflect upon the 20th anniversary of 9-11 this coming Saturday, and all the first responders that stepped up and put their lives on the line, American Legion Post 210, at Jackson and Prospect Place in Danville, is having a free ALL 1st RESPONDERS CHICKEN PARMESAN DINNER, 5 to 7 PM on Patriot Day this Saturday. Post 210 Commander Dave Morris says, they are stepping up even further from what they did two years ago.
AUDIO: To be honest with you I’m not sure where if came from, but two years ago when I was commander we did this for the First Responders and we had quite the turnout. So this year we’re doing it again.

The difference this time will be the availability of takeouts, for police and other first responders who are busy on the job at the time.
AUDIO: Police officers can’t come in and sit down for dinner as maybe the other first responders could. So we’re also offering a to go platter with it, and we’re putting it in a wrap for the people that maybe have to eat in their car or can’t actually come in and sit down with us.
For Morris, the memory of 9-11 is quite interesting on a personal level as well.
AUDIO: And I was a reservist and the second day of my two weeks of active duty was 9-11. The first day was 9-10, a Monday, and then the second day, Tuesday, was 9-11. So I went through it from a military perspective, and they kept me for another couple weeks after that, and I saw hundreds and hundreds of Marines and Army come through the Navy base up at Great Lakes, getting ready to go to the Middle East.
Morris says one of his friends from the NAVY was a Port Authority Police Officer, who at one time had been assigned to the Twin Towers. After 9-11 happened, his friend spent a lot of time at the site, digging up debris and looking for remains.
We should also mention that American Legion Post 210 is a private club but the public is welcome to join this First Responders dinner on Saturday at a cost of nine dollars each. The public is invited to their Friday night fish dinners as well.
