New City of Danville Community Relations Administrator Ashton Greer says that as a liason between the city and its citizens, she wants to lead everyone to believing in where they live. She told Linda Bolton on 1490 WDAN’S Newmakers program that no matter where you are, there’s plenty of enjoy and feel good about.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: I have traveled all over the world, I have been to so many communities, I’ve had internships in other countries; I honestly just get a little frustrated because I think a lot of the issue is the perception, it’s not the reality. But I think what people fail to see is: You can have a wonderful life here.
And one way to enjoy it, she says, is with this weekend’s 46th Annual Danville Fall Festival at Ellsworth Park
Audio PlayerAUDIO: There’s all kinds of activities for you and your family. We’ll have some fall vendors out there; such as pumpkins, gourds, and mums. And there’s pony rides, inflatables, and balloon animals.
Activities begin at 10 AM both days, and don’t forget the river clean-up on Saturday morning.
Prior to that, we have this Thursday’s Evening Stroll and Gallery Hop going on in Downtown Danville. Greer says, start at the library, get the youngsters those Baby Yoda Library Cards, and keep going.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: You can kind of just make your way down Vermilion, and there’s artists and musicians stationed at various businesses throughout the downtown districts, you can just browse their art, listen to their music, kind of stroll up and down Vermilion, shop as you walk; and then we have five food trucks coming.
Greer says she has major hopes for Downtown Danville’s future, and it’s not only more places to shop.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Going downtown should be an experience in itself. You know how when you go to a big city, or you go to downtown wherever you’re visiting, downtown is normally something that you associate with a feeling; the building, the lights, the people, the sounds, the smells, it’s all those things.
