Wednesday Night, September 15th, in the Danville High School Dick Van Dyke Auditorium, the public is invited to a meeting to discuss how District 118 can best use its $31.5 million dollars in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund program money. This is a program to help school districts recover from and improve from all the COVID difficulties, and there are guidelines that need to be followed. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Yacobi says they want to hear from the public. She says students have certainly talked about career and technical skills education. And then, Yacobi says, there’s something the district has really been wanting to do: expand their Pre-Kindergarten program, and get it into one location.
AUDIO: We have a very vibrant Pre-K program. We have one out at Southwest and we have another one at Edison. But I think we’re really looking to address early learning. We have a Birth to Three program that would be housed in there, helping new parents and parents in the district. Our vision is a one-stop shop for early learning to really get a jump on learning prior to entering into, potentially, your neighborhood school.
Yacobi says this funding is designed to help districts get back to the pre-pandemic learning state, and recover from learning loss that has occurred. Wednesday night’s meeting at the DHS auditorium is set for 5:30 to 6:30 .
