Autumn, fall, pumpkin spice season, spooky season, football season, and scarf season! In the year 2021, scarves come in all shapes and sizes with all kinds of names—there are infinity scarves, blanket scarves, cashmere scarves, scarves for the beach, scarves for your head… phew!
One thing is for sure, scarves are here to stay, so you need to know how to style this functional fashion accessory.
The Blanket Scarf: This scarf can be super intimidating, but it’s also the trendiest and is sure to keep you warm on all your outdoor fall adventures. You can definitely get creative with this one, but here are two simple ways we like to style the Blanket Scarf.
The Backwards Wrap
- Fold your large blanket scarf diagonally from one end to the other (making a triangle)
- Loop the two ends behind your head
- Wrap around your neck and let the two ends hang
The Shawl
- Fold diagonally from one end to the other (making a triangle)
- Drape around your shoulders
- Tie a knot in front (or don’t!)

The Simple Wrap
Just wrap around your neck once and let the two sides hang.
The Double Neck Tie
Wrap both ends behind your head - Tie one knot beneath your neck, pull taut
- Using the loose fabric under the first knot, tie another knot. Pull taut, or let it lie loosely
The Double Knot Drape
- Drape the scarf around your neck and leave both ends out
- Tie a knot halfway up one side of the fabric (near your collarbone)
- Tie another knot at the very end of the same side as the first knot
The Turtleneck
- Fold the scarf in half twice, if it’s a larger or longer scarf
- Wrap, wrap and wrap again until neither of the ends are visible
- Tuck any remaining fabric
