Danville School District 118 has confirmed that school is indeed scheduled to take place Tuesday and for the rest of the week, with enough district personnel having complied with a state mandate, forwarded to the district through the Illinois State Board of Education, that an adequate number of personnel needed to comply with uploading their COVID vaccination and/or negative COVID test result information to the ISBE’s Skyward system.
It was during last week’s District 118 Board meeting that Superintendent Dr. Alicia Geddes had stated that 300 individual district personnel had not offered their information, and that school could be shut down this week if the district did not have adequate teachers and personnel. If the district did not follow through with this, Geddes stated, the district would lose certification and IHSA eligibility. But the district has confirmed that all but about a half-dozen certified teachers, about five teacher’s assistants, and a handful of custodial personnel have indeed complied, allowing classes to not be interrupted.
Meanwhile, the district has confirmed that this Friday, in the Vermilion County Courthouse, a lawsuit filed on behalf of District 118 personnel disagreeing with the state mandate is scheduled to be heard. The district had no further comment as to what they expect may happen on Friday.
