After taking last year off because of the pandemic, the Newport Antique Auto Hill Climb returns to the western Indiana town this weekend. The Newport Lions Club and the town of Newport sponsor the festival which in some past years has attracted over 100-thousand visitors during the 3-day event. The town itself has only about 550 residents.
(The small town of Newport is preparing for a big weekend.)
Vintage, antique and classic cars, along with trucks and motorcycles, will be making timed runs up the 1800 feet long Newport hill. Practice runs are held on the hill on Saturday, with the competition on Sunday (October 3rd).
Activities begin Friday with a cruise at 6:00 p.m. (Indiana time) at the bottom of the hill and 35th Annual Gospel Music Jamboree at 7:00 p.m.
(This hill in Newport, Indiana will be busy this weekend.)
In addition to the competition on the hill, visitors can shop at the flea market which runs all day Saturday and Sunday in Newport. Newport is located about 30 miles southeast of Danville.
