Three veteran Danville firefighters have been promoted to new command positions.
- Justin Watt, who starts his 25th year on the Danville Fire Department on Friday, was sworn-in Wednesday as Assistant Chief.
- Brian Smith, who has been on the Danville Fire Department twenty years, has been promoted to Captain.
- David Jones took his oath Wednesday as a new Danville Fire Lieutenant. He has been on the department 22 years.
Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr. notes there are additional responsibilities that come with the rank….
(AUDIO: ‘’They’re the ones who are running the show whenever there’s any kind of fire scene in town. So they’re literally the ones responsible to make sure that lives are saved (and) that as much property is saved as possible. So when these guys know their stuff they make sure that people come out alive.’’}

And if you wondered why so many fire trucks were parked near the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building Wednesday – it was because the entire first shift witnessed the ceremony and congratulated their brother firefighters.
