A visitor came to Vermilion County Wednesday afternoon: Fifth District Appellate Court Justice Barry Vaughn. He was appointed to the Appellate Court late last year, after Justice David Overstreet was elected to the Illinois Supreme Court, and now Justice Barry Vaughn is running for a ten year term. He’ll be facing Greenville attorney Tom DeVore and fourth Judicial Circuit Judge Michael McHaney in the GOP primary. Prior to speaking outside the Vermilion County Administrative Building, Vaughn said, he ‘s running on his experience.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: I’ve been a trial lawyer, I’ve been a state’s attorney prosecutor for eight years, small town attorney for six years; but I’ve been on the bench for 18 years as a trial judge, so I have the experience to be on the Appellate Court. And because of that, the Supreme Court put me on in January, so I’ve been doing the Appellate Court work since January of this year.
While speaking in Danville, Justice Barry Vaughn held up one of his favorite books, “Yesterday in America,” and mentioned that he was named after Barry Goldwater.
