It remains Domestic Violence Awareness month all through October, and Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy says the Victim Assistance Program to benefit Crosspoint Human Services continues. They are asking for donated items to help domestic violence victims get through their very challenging transitional period, and Lacy emphasized items that they really need more of.

Things are kicking off every year and we seem to collect quite a few items, and it’s been a success so far. I want to say off the top of my head it’s probably the third or fourth annual we’ve done since I’ve been in the office.
State’s Attorney Lacy says the battle against domestic violence never ends, but has definite goals her office always tries to meet.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: It’s a cycle that continues but we try to help to break that cycle, and help victims get assistance that they need, therapy that they might need, and put their abusers in jail. Sometimes the abusers will also get help themselves, and they’re on a period of probation. But it’s aimed at breaking the cycle of violence, and helping families stay together in a healthy way.
Lacy says donated items can be dropped off at Vermilion County Title at 112 North Vermilion, the North Vermilion McDonald’s, the Vermilion County Administration Building just north of Downtown Danville, and the domestic violence shelter at 201 North Hazel.
