A 27-year-old Hoopeston Man, Dalton M.C. Burmeister, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison , to be followed by 15 years of supervised release, for sexual exploitation of a child and trafficking in child pornography. Burmeister was arrested on December 22, 2020; and charged by criminal complaint. According to the affadavit supporting the complaint, Burmeister exploited children under the age of six to engage in sexual activity and to create an image of that conduct. The affadavit further alleged that Burmeister trafficked images of child pornagraphy with another unidentified individual. Burmeister pleaded guilty to all counts in June of 2021.
In other federal court news, 66-year-old David W Morlan, most recently of Danville, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release, for failure to register as a sex offender. In imposing the sentence, Senior U.S. District Judge Michel M Mihm noted Morlan’s two prior failure-to-register convictions as an aggravating factor. Morlan’s 2006 conviction for aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under thirteen from Vermilion County requires that he register as a sex offender for his lifetime.
In county court news, a Vermilion County jury recently found 20-year-old Lamont Davis of Danville guilty of first-degree murder, home invasion, and aggravated battery in the shooting death of 20-year-old Danville man Justin Daubaris on November 10th of 2019.
According to the office of Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Davis and two other men stormed into a Hazel Street apartment in Danville armed with firearms on the day of the shooting.
