A couple weeks ago, FishingBooker.com selected the top fall trout fishing spots in Illinois, and one of those mentioned was the Kickapoo State Recreation Area. Trout season officially began on the 16th, and site superintendent Tim Edison says, yes, things are off to a fine start.

Edison says they are well stocked out at Kickapoo for trout season, as they intend to be every year.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: They stock quite a few trout in here, with the anticipation of a lot of people coming out and enjoying it, so it usually is always pretty good. For most of the trout fishing we stock our fish in Clear Lake. So there’s a concession building down there, and most of the people are fishing west of that concession building. There’s sort of a boardwalk out there, and a lot of people like fishing from there.
Edison says most visitors fish between sunrise and sunset, but as long as you’re fishing, you can be out there anytime. And before we know it, yes, some of the trout season will include ice fishing.
