J Balvin has issued an apology for his recent “Perra” music video, which was removed from YouTube last weekend.
The video, which features Dominican model Tokischa, shows Balvin tugging on two Black women on leashes and a group of Black individuals who are made to look like dogs while Tokischa poses on all fours inside of a doghouse.
It's worth noting that “Perra” means female dog.
In an Instagram Story post that J Balvin shared on Sunday (October 24th), he said, “I want to say sorry to whomever felt offended, especially to the Black community. That's not who I am. I'm about tolerance, love and inclusivity. I also like to support new artists, in this case Tokischa, a woman who supports her people, her community and also empowers women.”
He added, “As a form of respect, I removed the video eight days ago,” said Balvin. But because the criticism continued, I'm here making a statement. Mom, I'm sorry too. Life gets better each day. Thank you for listening to me.”
It's unclear if Balvin or YouTube is responsible for having the video removed from the platform.
