This month marks the 60th anniversary of something all Danville residents and natives should be proud of. It’s the 60th anniversary, of the premiere of the Dick Van Dyke Show. David Van Deusen used to publish a regular newsletter about the Dick Van Dyke Show called The Walnut Times. He also once wrote a book called My Walnut Adventures with the Dick Van Dyke Show Cast. But now, for this anniversary, he’s airing a documentary special on Facebook Live, this Saturday evening. Just google “Dick Van Dyke Show Facebook Live Event,” and the preview of it is right at the top. Or, find the link to his Dick Van Dyke Show 60th anniversary celebration page right here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1949701288523449/events
Van Deusen says the simple reason people have always loved this show, and still do, is it took life, as funny as it can be, and made it real.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Carl Reiner’s genius in ensuring that the situations that the show portrayed are all things that we still can relate to today. They truly are about life events. Carl would always ask the writers, or ask the cast, “What happened to you?” And many times, most times, the story ideas were organic. They came from real life experiences.
Saturday evening’s Facebook Live event begins at 7 PM Central Time.
