Due to how the calendar shapes up this year, we are in for a long Halloween weekend, pretty much starting Friday night through trick-or-treating time at 5 PM on Sunday night. Danville Deputy Police Chief Terry McCord says adults need to watch for both their own safety, such as making sure they have a designated driver for any party they are going to.
AUDIO: We want to make sure everybody can stay as safe as they can while they have fun, and make sure everybody within the City of Danville is doing everything they can to keep it safe.
And then, of course, paying extra attention when the children are out and about 5 to 7 on Sunday. And make sure the youngsters are not darting out between cars, and crossing streets at the corners, properly supervised.
AUDIO: You get into the act of the trick-or-treating, and sometimes you’re enjoying yourself a little bit too much to remember those safety tips. We want to keep those headlights on, we want to keep those flashing lights on when you’re on the side of the road; and ALWAYS, the kids should be exiting on the passenger side, as long as we are parked legally to the side how we should be, just for the safety of those little ones.
Danville Police also remind you, if you see an impaired person about to drive, take their keys and help them get home safely. And if you see an impaired driver on the road, contact local law enforcement as soon as it is safe to do so.
