As the Beatles might have said, it’s been a Hard Day’s WEEK when it comes to the harvest, between all the rain from last weekend, and then the return of the rain Thursday morning. Vermilion County Farm Bureau spokesperson Tom Fricke says yes, there’s some frustration out there, but still also plenty of time. Will everything be done by Thanksgiving? Well, maybe not the post harvest field work. But the harvest itself, perhaps, if all goes well.

AUDIO: For the most part, most of the guys, if we get another good week of harvesting opportunity, we’ll be able to knock out a lot of the harvest that’s left here in the immediate area. I mean they’ll be some that still have two or three weeks left to go, but we just need to have those weather opportunities available to get that work completed.
Fricke says, he continues to hear, as the numbers come in, area farmers have been quite satisfied.
717 – Tom TWO…:21….moving forward.”
AUDIO: I did have a chance to visit with a couple of local seed company sales reps and they said from talking to their clients that, yes, we are looking at some pretty good numbers this year. We did have some disease impact on the corn yields, especially early on, but overall yields have been very good this year, and something that everyone will be able to take advantage of as they make their plans moving foward.
And Fricke reminds everyone, especially current these darker cloudy days and with the time change soon on November 7th making it dark much earlier, continue to watch for farm vehicles on country roads, and be prepared for them at all times.
