The first of two opportunities for Danville residents to state their preferences on how COVID relief funds should be used will be at the City Council meeting at 6 PM Tuesday night. Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says he’ll begin by going over some of the guidelines on what the funding can be spent on, such as investing in sewer, water, and broadband infrastructure; and what it cannot be spent on, such as the payment of pensions or rainy day funds. Then, those attending will have a chance to speak up.
AUDIO: I’ve received some requests from organizations and things like that, but this will be an opportunity for individuals to be able to express themselves and share their concerns with the Council, and with one another; so I’m looking forward to it.
There will be a second opportunity this month for residents to speak publicly on this issue, Thursday November 18th at 6 PM, in the Laura Lee Fellowship House at 212 E Williams Street. Danville has been allocated $24.7 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, and must have it allocated by the end of 2024, and spent by the end of 2026.
