A Danville church is starting up a chapter of an international program to assist young moms. First Church of the Nazarene Musicial Director and Associate Pastor Samantha Stafford recently joined Linda Bolton on 1490 WDAN’s Newsmakers program. She explained what the program is about, and what it’s called.
AUDIO: MOPS started back in 1973, as a few moms who just wanted to see young moms connected to each other. The acronym stands for MOTHERS OF PRE-SCHOOLERS. But since then, they have expanded to include elementary age kids, teen moms, and high school age kids too. You can kind of do it depending upon the needs of your community.
Right now, the First Church of the Nazarene’s MOPS program will be for moms who are pregnant, up to moms who have children in 5th grade. Stafford says she was motivated to start this after some of her own experiences with postpartum depression.
AUDIO: Well, you think when you have a baby, it’s going to be hard of course; because of the sleep, the changing diapers, and all the new things. But you think it’s going to be butterflies and rainbows, because it’s your baby, and you love them, and I do of course. But it was definitely a surprise to me.
Meetings are being held 9 AM to 10:30 the third Tuesday of each month. Go to DanvilleFirstNaz.org/MOPS for more information. Or contact the church at 217-442-8316.
