A Danville native says she feels blessed after winning a national award for developing a program which helps children of military families. Bill Pickett has more….
Amy Schweizer has been named the 2021 Inspirational Leader of the Year by the Rosie Network. It is a Veteran’s project helping to strengthen military families.
Schweizer says her Tiny Troops Soccer toddler program grew out of a desire to advance her interest in sports while moving with her Marine husband from base to base.
‘’We know that it’s more than just a game on the field,’’ said Schweizer. ‘’We are here to positively impact our nation’s littlest warriors physical bodies, as well as positively impacting their mental and emotional health.’’
‘’I am blessed to lead a team of military spouses, dependants, active-duty service members and community members near military installations across seventeen states and overseas,’’ added Schweizer. Tiny Troops Soccer is a developmental soccer program for children primarily ages two through five.
In 2020 the Tiny Troops Soccer program was selected by the Danville Area Community College Small Business Development Center as one of the year’s Small Business of the Year Award winners.
Amy’s love of soccer began her sophomore year at Danville High School, which was the year they first started girls soccer at DHS. She went on to play at Millikin University and then professionally with the semi pro Cincinnati Ladyhawks.
The Rosie Award is named after WWII icon Rosie the Riveter and her ‘’We Can Do It!” attitude.
