THE FOLLOWING IS FROM A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE:
Dimitri Coffey was sentenced today (December 6, 2021) to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Mark Goodwin for the offense of Burglary. In September of last year, Coffey used a sledge hammer and spade to create a hole in a wall of adandoned buildings adjacent to Gold Rush Pawnbrokers, 20 North Hazel Street in Danville, Illinois; and thereafter climbed into the business and started to steal various items. The owner of the pawn shop was live-streaming security surveillance video at the time of the crime, and contacted law enforcement. Officers of the Danville Police Department quickly responded, and arrested Coffey in an alleyway behind the business.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Goodwin was apprised that Coffey previously had been convicted of crimes; including Residential Burglary, Burglary, and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
Coffee will be required to serve at least 50 percent of his sentence, and will be on Mandatory Supervised Release for one year thereafter.
