With all of the problems along the supply chain these days, local food banks, and what they do for those in need during the holiday season, certainly had to be concerned.
The food seems to be getting to the food banks just fine for now. And although some are reporting a lack of containers for the food; like boxes, cans, and wrapping; Molly Delaney from the Eastern Illinois Food Bank says they are thankful to have had very few problems thus far.
AUDIO: To my knowledge, I mean I know that other food banks around the country, I’ve heard, you know, it just really depends on your location. I’ve heard stories of everything you’re talking about and more. But we are not experiencing anything on that level yet.
Delaney says the best way you can help the Eastern Illinois Food Bank this holiday season is actually by donating not food, but money. Because as Delaney explains, the food bank knows where to go to get the best deals, they just need the funding to do it.
AUDIO: While we are always eager to have people be able to support us through their time through volunteering, and we always encourage people to donate food. But the most practical way to support us at this point is with financial support. And that’s just because we can actually purchase more with a dollar than someone can if they are purchasing food and bringing it to us.
