They may be coming off last weekend’s triple-header of Miracle on 34th Street on Friday night, the Danville Barbershop Chorus on Saturday, and the Danville Symphony Orchestra on Sunday; but Danville’s Fischer Theatre is not done for 2021. As Executive Director Jason Rome told Linda Bolton on 1490 WDAN’s News Makers program, one thing still coming up is the Winter Sounds concert, this Friday night the 10th at 8 PM. Jason Rome explains how this is an expansion of last year’s event.
AUDIO: Obviously a take off of “Summer Sounds,” right, because why re-invent the wheel? You know last year we did that when the theatre was fundamentally dark. We couldn’t have anybody in, you know, for occupancy restrictions. What we did was we pulled together a lot of local musicians, who had essentially been out of work and hadn’t had a chance to earn money. And a few of us non-profits in the area got together, and we’ve come back together to do it this year: Ourselves at the Vermilion Heritage Foundation, the Danville Public Library Foundation, and the DACC Foundation.
And not only are local and area musicians performing, but as Rome explained, organizations such as the YMCA and United Way have been contacted to bring in residents who ordinarily might not get to go to a show like this. Three-hundred seats have been set aside. Tickets for Friday night’s Winter Sounds concert are 20 dollars for adults, five dollars for kids.
In addition, the Fischer is showing Home Alone this coming Saturday at 7 PM and Sunday at 2 PM. Then, the following weekend, it’s the sing along version of The Nightmare Before Christmas at 7 PM Friday the 17th, and It’s a Wonderful Life Saturday the 18th at 7 PM, and Sunday the 19th at 2 PM.
