The Salvation Army’s HOPE MARCHES ON campaign for this holiday season is going strong. In fact, Special Events and Development Coordinator for Vermilion and Champaign Counties Melissa Wilhelm stated that as of last Friday, they had reached 53 percent of their Vermilion County goal with 21 days to go.
But as Wilhelm explains, that’s just the red kettle portion of the campaign. Some other ways of donating added in this year have not been totaled up yet, and should make quite a difference.
AUDIO: Just to sort of offset the need for bell ringers this year we put counter kettles at various very generous businesses and restaurants throughout Danville in Vermilion County that offered to do that for us. So I think, you know, that hasn’t been included yet either, and I think that will really help us meet our goal for Vermilion County as well.

And in addition to the Salvation Army’s appearance at the Vermilion County Bobcats hockey game this past Friday night, they also plan to be at the Fischer Theatre, this coming Saturday.
AUDIO: We’re also partnering with the Fischer Theatre and the Vermilion Heritage Foundation for the It’s a Wonderful Life Movie that’s showing at Fischer Theatre on Saturday, December 18th at 7 PM. That is for a free will donation, and 20 percent of those proceeds for that movie will also go towards the Salvation Army in Danville.
And remember, if you’d like to sign up as a bell ringer, you can always go to registertoring.com to find a location near you that needs some help.
