A tradition that’s been going on for decades in Westville is set to ride again this Saturday. Westville firefighters will once again be assisting with the Santa’s Anonymous toy distribution. Captain Doug Oakes gives us some of the history.
AUDIO: Santa’s Anonymous has been around about, I’m not sure of the approximate amount of the years, but about 40 years. It was started up by Debbie Seripinas and Cindy Pataski. My mom is best friends with Cindy and Debbie. I’ve actually been doing this since I was about ten years old.
Captain Oakes says, the firefighters got involved in the distribution a couple decades ago.
AUDIO: We’ve incorporated the fire department for the better part of 20 of those years. What we do is on the day of delivery we help them out and have a Santa Claus on one of our fire trucks, and help them deliver on the day of delivery.
Captain Oakes says the firefighters may be driving around Saturday, but it’s the folks from Santa’s Anonymous that really deserve the credit for putting this together and getting the children signed up. He says all should start rolling Saturday around 3 PM. Doug’s mom Darlene Oakes and Debbie Seripinas are now running the event. It’s first actual year was 1976.
