The FedEx Distribution Center on its way to Danville will hopefully be another sign of getting things back to normal and moving forward. That’s the take of Vermilion Advantage CEO Tim Dudley, who told us that with the facility set to open in the fall of 2022, hopefully we can be much closer if not at the end of pandemic troubles, and hit the ground running once the facility is up and operating.
AUDIO: As we’ve all been hoping for the last two years, we hope this COVID crisis is behind us. We’ve been saying it for a long time, but we really do hope it’s behind us by then. I’m not sure that it will be, but hopefully we’ve eventually got to get back to normal, and I think this is a great opportunity. You can’t stop going out and bringing projects and companies to Danville just because of COVID or other reasons. You have to keep still trying to grow, and that’s exactly what we’re trying to do.
But meanwhile, there is a lot of construction work to do at the site on Borgen Road, just south of the Lynch Road – I-74 interchange. Dudley says, yes, look for at least 150 full time positions, in addition to part-time and seasonal availabilities.
AUDIO: Obviously they’ve got a long construction season ahead of them, this spring and summer. I’m sure that eventually down the road they’ll be taking applications for several jobs, anywhere between 150 and 180 is what I’m hearing.
Danville Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says it was FedEx who contacted Danville and said they wanted to come. Now it’s a matter of patiently waiting for it to be built, and seeing what having a FedEx type company here can do for the future.
AUDIO: So many times we work so hard to bring something here, and on this one they actually reached out to us; and we just did a lot of help behind the scenes with logistics. It’s like many of the things, you know; Carle, the casino, and so many other great opportunities. You know they say “good things come to those that wait” so we just have to held on a little while longer. Having a Fortune 500 company located in our community, that’s fantastic news in and of itself.
The facility is planned for 217,000 square feet.
