The Danville City Council has passed their Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget, which begins on May 1st of 2022. Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says it was a smooth ride getting the $60.9 million budget (after department transfers are factored in) passed, and he is pleased with the Council’s work.
AUDIO: I was really proud. You know we worked hard to education the aldermen. We did a lot of meeting with them one-on-one. The comptroller gave a couple of different updates, big updates and overviews as we made changes. So I’m really proud of the way our team and the aldermen worked together, to put together what I think is one of the best budgets we’ve had in years.
The mayor mentioned that due to a projected increase in equalized assessed valuation, the city is projecting a three-cent decrease per 100 dollars of EAV in the City of Danville portion of residents’ taxes.
Meanwhile, yes, the new garbage toter rules, after numerous adjustments, have finally passed. Fines have been approved for homeowners and landlords if toters are left along the streets and not properly put away. The mayor says, this was, indeed, a long time coming; and it took great teamwork.
AUDIO: You know we have an issue with this throughout the community, it’s not just one part of town. We want to make sure we protect our citizens from those who don’t seem to care about their neighbors. So we’re really proud of the aldermen for making this happen.
Mailings will soon be going out explaining the new rules, which will begin on February 1st.
