Vermilion County has now lost 235 residents from COVID-related deaths during the pandemic. County Health Administrator Douglas Toole announced Tuesday evening that three more people have died. One is a woman in her sixties. Another is a man in his sixties, and the third person is a woman in her nineties.
Toole also reported 115 new cases of COVID have been diagnosed in Vermilion County. It takes to 17,532 the number of county residents who have been sickened since the pandemic began.
There are currently 283 known active cases of COVID in the county. Twenty-five county residents are currently hospitalized with COVID. Toole adds the Health Department is aware of twenty-one Vermilion County residents who have become re-infected with COVID since June first.
Of the 115 cases reported Tuesday, twelve of them said they had been fully vaccinated. Of the new cases, one resident is in their nineties, two in their eighties, three in their seventies, thirteen in their sixties, and twenty-five are in their fifties. The other new cases include thirteen in their forties, seventeen in their thirties, twenty-six in their twenties, seven teenagers, six grade-school-aged children, one pre-school-aged child, and three infants.
The Vermilion County Health Department Administrator is continuing to remind residents that getting vaccinated saves lives.
There are several opportunities coming where citizens can receive their COVID-19 vaccination or booster. Those planning to attend one of the events should take their COVID vaccination card and some identification with them.
Locations and dates where you can get vaccinated (or a booster) include:
- January 8, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Danville Boys and Girls Club at 850 North Griffin Street. It is being hosted by Aetna Better Health of Illinois. The type of vaccines available will be ones for children ages 5 to 11, and Pfizer for 12 and over. Moderna and Pfizer Boosters will also be available. This is an Illinois Department of Public Health/Illinois Emergency Management Agency clinic and is not part of the County Health Department clinics.
- Mark Denman Elementary School at 930 Colfax Street in Danville on January 15, 2022 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Types of vaccines available will include ones for children ages 5 to 11, and Pfizer for 12 and above. Moderna, Pfizer, and J & J will be available along with boosters, too.
- Oakwood Public Library at 110 E. Finley Avenue in Oakwood on January 15, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Pfizer vaccine will be available for those 12 years old and above. Moderna and J & J Boosters will also be available.
- At Carle – call for an appointment or go online for Booster vaccines.
- OSF has vaccines for children 5 and up. Go to osfmychart.org to make an appointment.
- Local pharmacies also have vaccine available. Make an appointment online and check to see if they have what you need – 1st dose, 2nd dose, 3rd dose/booster.
- There will be COVID testing clinics at the Vermilion County Health Department on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. both days. Those interested can create an account and make appointments through a link on the Health Department’s website at https://vchd.org/covid-19 for more information.
