We are into 2022, and one of the first big events at the Danville Public Library this year will be this Thursday, January 6th, when patrons will have a chance to speak via ZOOM with award winning actor and long time reading and library advocate LeVar Burton.
Danville Public Library Assistant Director Jessica Augustson and Director Jennifer Hess speak recently with Linda Bolton on 1490 WDAN’s News Makers program about LeVar Burton’s January 6th Zoom meeting with the Danville Public Library and its community.
Burton’s acting career goes all the way back to his portrayal of a young Kunta Kinte in the breakthrough mini-series ROOTS in 1977, along with his years on STAR TREK: The Next Generation. And as Jennifer Hess and Jessica Augustson from the Danville Public Library recently stated to Linda Bolton on 1490 WDAN’s News Makers program, his promotion of story telling, the imagination, and what reading and libraries do for a community, are all well known.
AUDIO: He is such a figurehead in literature for children. He’s an advocate, and has his own app which is linked to that. It’s the SKYBRARY APP, which is an audio book type of app for children’s book.
This appearance by LeVar Burton will be via “zoom” but it is solely to the Danville Public Library and its community. It begins at 6 PM Thursday night, AND CAN ONLY BE VIEWED ON ZOOM from home, not at the library (the watch party has been cancelled). If you have not yet signed up, please use this link: bit.ly/DPL-LeVar.
The link can also be used after the event has started.
This event is funded by a grant from the library foundation.
