Danville District 118 Schools re-open Monday, (January 3, 2022) after the holiday break with in-person learning…for now. It could change later, though, depending upon the impact of rising COVID-19 cases locally.
Superintendent Alicia Geddis and Assistant Superintendents Dr. Elizabeth Yacobi and John Hart sent out a message to the ‘District 118 Family Sunday. It said while new COVID cases are concerning, the District will do its very best to continue in-person learning. The message noted the District will continue to adhere to Illinois State Board of Education regulations, as well as those of the Illinois Department of Public Health.
‘’If the positivity numbers, ability to staff our schools, or our ability to provide services continues to become more of a challenge, we may need to pivot learning to a remote setting,’’ said the statement.
Superintendent Geddis says that as positivity rates (for COVID) are changing in Vermilion County, the ‘District 118 Family’ is asked to continue to closely monitor your children, yourself, other close family members, and anyone living in your home for fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, fatigue, and muscle and body aches. Also if you experience a headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. If your child or a family member exhibits any of those symptoms, Dr. Geddis’ statement said you should notify your healthcare provider immediately.
More detailed information about COVID-19 signs and symptoms can be found on the Illinois Department of Public Health website.
District 118 says it is giving its best effort to combat the effects of the virus in order to reverse the impact on student learning in Danville’s Public Schools. ‘’The well-being of our school community will always be our number one priority,’’ said Sunday’s statement. It added that if anyone in the District 118 Family has any COVID-related questions, they can contact School Nurse, Mrs. Danielle Montgomery, at 217-444-1603 or MontgomeryD@danville118.org.
Superintendent Geddis also promised future information will be released if the need arises.
