It’s a brand new tradition in Downtown Danville this year: a calendar completely full of First Friday of the Month celebrations. Sure, this includes another Potterfest in November and another Night of Lights Parade in December, but there’s plenty to look forward to all year long. Danville Community Relations Administrator Ashton Greer says it seems to be the first time a whole year’s worth has been up and ready to go.
AUDIO: As far as I know, it’s the first time we’ve had an entire year planned out and presented to the community with this much advance notice. I know that they’ve done First Friday events in the past, but I don’t think there’s ever been kind of a “grand revealer” or a rollout of the whole year all at once.
Those who have signed up kick it all off with this Friday’s Progressive Dinner at various Downtown Venues.
AUDIO: So it starts at Venue Twenty-two, where the Downtown Danville Events Center is catering with appetizers. And then the next stop is Lovin Cup. They’re going to do a hot turkey pretzel sandwich; and then Vermilion River Beer Company, you can get a drink of your choice along with that right next door. And then after that you’ll move on to Cafe 13 where you’ll have a selection of desserts along with hot coffee or tea. And then the last stop is Fatman’s, and they’re going to serve bar snacks along with your favorite night cap.
Then, it’s time to plan for Friday February 4th, which will be the DANVILLE’S GOT TALENT talent show at the FISCHER THEATRE. And auditions are set for Thursday January 13th at City Hall, right in the Council chambers. In fact, Greer says that whole slate is full, so now other auditions are being taken Monday the 10th. Yes, we’re talking a lot of singing and dancing, but other things as well.
AUDIO: I think it’s pretty neat that we have some people auditioning with Spoken Word, some poetry that they’ve written and they’re going to perform their poetry. I love that idea. And then there’s some people that are wrapping, and I think that’s a cool idea too.
Go to the First Fridays in Downtown Danville Facebook page and find the link if you’d like to audition.
