The road to the June primary election begins Thursday, January 13th, when election packets become available at the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office, in the Vermilion County government office building at 201 North Vermilion in Danville.
Vermilion County Clerk Cathy Jenkins says, her staff will be ready.
AUDIO: At 8 o’clock on Thursday morning they can come and pick up their packets at that time. We’ll be ready to go and we’ll be open all day for them to pick it up here at the County Clerk’s Office. You have to turn them back in during the week of March 7th to the 14th, by the 14th.
The petition packets do indeed need to be filed with the clerk’s office between 8 AM Monday, March 7th and 5 PM Monday, March 14th. And yes, as Cathy Jenkins reminds us, if opposing candidates are both there with their packets at 8 AM on March 7th, ballot positions for the primary election will then be determined with a lottery of some sort. The clerk says, yes, usually everyone usually tries to be the first one in, going for top ballot position.
AUDIO: Usually what happens is, they come in and they’re all here. We draw, like a lottery type thing so everybody gets to the ballot like they should get on the ballot, to be as fair as we can.
The primary election is June 28th and the general election November 8th; with loads of Congressional, state legislative, and county offices and county board positions up for grabs.
