A great turnout Monday for the Dr. Martin Luther King parade and march, which started at Logan and West Main and made its way to St James United Methodist Church for a special community service. Danville Police Chief Christopher Yates was there bright and early:

AUDIO: We can always expect a cold day for the MLK Parade. Actually this is a little warmer than we’ve had in the past. But we’ll take it. It’s just a good time to have everybody together.

As was mayor Rickey Williams, Jr:
AUDIO: You know we’ve got a line all the way down the hill, so I would say we have 100 or more people here this morning; and proud or everyone coming out to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy.

When the procession stopped briefly at the King Memorial outside the old Danville District 118 Administration Building, local NAACP president Ed Butler was the speaker. He said beforehand, he was glad to see so many participating.
AUDIO: Yes, we do, we’ve got a great turn out today. I don’t care how cold it is, we’ve got some dedicated people just willing to come out there to enhance and keep the movement going.
