Danville Light Opera is preparing a special love story for the Fischer Theatre stage over Valentine’s weekend. Friday February 11th through Sunday February 13th, it will be The Bridges of Madison County. Director Heather Miyagi told Linda Bolton on 1490 WDAN’s News Makers program that it follows similar to the movie many of us remember, with some incredible music to help set the scene.
AUDIO: This is based on that movie, based on that book, which people are also familiar with. It’s the same story, and it is set to some truly glorious music by Jason Robert Brown. And it’s a Tony award winner, just a fantastic musical. I’m super excited that we’re able to present it.

Jacob Deters, a Springfield native who now works at the U of I, plays Robe, or should we say the Clint Eastwood character.
AUDIO: Robert is a photographer with National Geographic who is on a journey on the route to the county, The Bridges of Madison County, just outside of Des Moines, Iowa; to take pictures of the covered bridges for the magazine. He loses his way and needs to find the last bridge in the county, and runs into Francesca.
Tania Arazi Coambs is an aspiring playwright who heard about this production from a friend, and decided to try out. She plays Francesca, played by Meryl Streep in the movie.
AUDIO: I saw The Bridges of Madison County on Broadway in 2014. And I love the production. I mean there’s nothing not to love about the music, it’s absolutely beautiful. And so I thought, “Oh man, that would be really amazing to go and audition for this.”
That’s February the 11th through the 13th, with evening 7:30 shows Friday and Saturday, at a 2:30 matinee on Sunday. You can go to AttheFischer.com.
