We are now even closer to the first ever Glow Downtown 5K race in Downtown Danville; as part of this year’s package of “First Fridays” activities. Danville Community Relations Administrator Ashton Greer joined Tommy B on D102’s “Big Show” to remind us that when they use the word “glow,” they mean it; for both the participants, and how it will look.
AUDIO: It’s at night. It starts at 6:30 PM. There’s going to be black lights all up and down Vermilion Street. We’re asking people to wear neon clothes; you know, light up jewelry, paint their faces, get crazy.
And since this event covers a lot of ground, yes, volunteers and police will be helping to give directions.
AUDIO: There’s going to be a golf cart leading the runners and a golf cart at the end, just to make sure that nobody gets lost in the shuffle at night. We’re welcoming walkers and runners, and we have some people walking with strollers. The really cool thing about this race is that it starts in Downtown, but then you end up at Spring Hill Cemetary. And in Spring Hill Cemetary there’s going to be lanterns lighting a path through the cemetary.
It should also be mentioned that the entire evening of Friday March 4th is meant to give everyone in Downtown Danville a good time; for both those in the race, and those stopping by.
AUDIO: At Temple Plaza there’s a actually a DJ that’s going to be there playing music, with kind of a light set up. And it’s going to be like a dance party feel in Temple Plaza the whole time. So you can hang out, listening to the music if you like dancing if that’s your thing. But then there’s always Vermilion Beer Company across the street. You can stop in and have a drink. And then Lovin Cup is going to have some really fun food specials.
One of those Lovin Cup food specials will be, in honor of the Glow 5K Race, ‘glow stick cotton candy.’
