As food prices rise, the Eastern Illinois Foodbank continues to provide relief for thousands of people who qualify in our region. On Saturday (February 26th) a distribution of free food was held at Mark Denman Elementary School in Danville for those who qualify.
Staci Disney, the Foodmobile volunteer captain, outlined the types of food they were distributing…
{‘’We have some hamburger. We have bagels. We have fresh produce. We have hard-boiled eggs. We have some pre-made salad type items. We have milk. We have Mayonnaise, crackers, olives. We have some canned goods. So it’s sort of a variety of things that people can take to help supplement their other food.’’}
Disney notes the Eastern Illinois Foodbank distributes to many partner organizations. She adds there is no reason for anyone to go hungry….
{‘’You know it’s really amazing what the Eastern Illinois Foodbank does in providing food for those who maybe are struggling or having a rough time. So it’s really nice that they are an organization that’s available to help people out. And especially during the pandemic they were really essential to getting food items to people who were really struggling.’’}
Disney says the Foodbank is ‘’really trying to reach all of the people they can with some healthy food items – especially with the produce and meat to supplement peoples’ food items that they have.’’ And Disney adds that as food prices continue to rise there are a lot of people who need help.
