THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE
Jovon Johnson, formerly of 7000 South Wabash Street, Chicago, Illinois, was sentenced February 18, 2022, to twelve (12) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offenses of Armed Violence and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. Day–for–day sentencing credit applies, and the sentences shall be followed by eighteen (18) months of Mandatory Supervised Release (i.e., Parole). The Armed Violence charge is a Class X Felony. The Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse charge, typically a Class 2 Felony, likewise is a Class X felony due to Johnson’s criminal history, which includes Vehicular Hijacking and felony weapons offenses. As part of his sentence, Johnson must register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
Circuit Judge Charles Hall entered the sentence upon hearing evidence establishing that on May 4, 2021, law enforcement officers with the Danville Police Department investigated a suspicious vehicle parked afterhours in Fetch Dog Park. As the officers approached, Johnson appeared from the back seat, put on a shirt, jumped into the driver‘s seat and fled in the car. Law enforcement pursued Johnson, who ultimately crashed the car in a ditch. The vehicle was stolen, and located in the car was a semi-automatic handgun. Also located in the car along with a pantless Johnson was a fifteen (15) year-old female. The victim minor disclosed to law enforcement that she and Johnson, then age twenty-eight (28), previously had engaged in an act of sexual penetration.

Darrell Nickle, formerly of Georgetown, Illinois, was sentenced February 16, 2022 to ten (10) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Methamphetamine Possession a Class 2 Felony. His prison sentence will be followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.
Circuit Judge Charles Hall entered the sentence upon hearing evidence that Law Enforcement stopped the defendant for a violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code, and during the stop a police canine alerted on
the car for the presence of drugs. A subsequent search of the car revealed that there was approximately ten grams of methamphetamine in a hidden compartment in the car.
