All eyes are on Danville Area Community College’s Mary Miller Gymnasium for the NJCAA Basketball Tournament this coming week; but guess what, there’s some other local basketball news involving DACC as well. Starting in 2023, the Vermilion County High School Basketball Tournament will be back at Mary Miller Gymnasium.
Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School principal Kevin Thomas says the Vermilion County principals have been talking about taking the tournament back to DACC for a while, and this seemed like just the right time.
AUDIO: Danville Area Community College has been on our doorstep talking to us about this. And they’ve talked to us about getting Vermilion County kids on campus. And this is a way to do that. It’s kind of a win-win.

Thomas says the principals did not know DACC would be bringing in that gigantic video board that’s making its debut at the NJCAA Tournament. But now that they’ve seen it, hey, just another reason to make the move.

AUDIO: That’s one of the many upgrades that we’re going to experience there. Our locker room situation for our teams will be a better scenario. We’re always concerned about taking care of our officials, and I think that’s a nice upgrade for us there. And then of course we saw the video board. We’re looking forward to more of a high school atmosphere. We talked to our kids about that, and they liked the idea, across Vermilion County. That’s what’s important to us is giving the kids the best opportunity.
This year’s Vermilion County Tournament was at the David S Palmer Arena. Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin took the boys championship; Salt Fork won the girls championship.
