Danville Police have a lot to look out for this coming weekend. Thursday is St Patrick’s Day, and that means St. Patrick’s Day activities throughout the weekend. Then, you have more springtime weather in the air, the junior college basketball tournament in town, and people going from place to place to watch the NCAA games. Deputy Police Chief Terry McCord says, they will be out and about watching, so please be careful.
AUDIO: We’re reminding everybody to stay off those cell phones and make sure they’re buckling up. As always, watch your speed and just keep an extra eye out for everything that’s going on.
And most importantly, watch for pedestrians. And if you are a pedestrian, use extreme caution.
AUDIO: So they may be struggling, or not following those rules on the sidewalk or crossing the road or the street like they should be. So drivers really have to keep an eye out for that.
Finally, do not be afraid to have that conversation about someone being a designated driver. Simply put, plan ahead.
AUDIO: You have to have the courage to go ahead and make the right decision. Just don’t let those friends, family members, or even an aquaintance get behind that wheel after they’ve been drinking or involved in any kind of recreational drugs.
And not only should you stop someone from driving if they are not in good condition, but stop someone from walking as well. If you notice someone is not in good condition, do something.
