The latest unemployment numbers show that the jobs situation in Danville and Vermilion County took a step back from December to January, but still remains much stronger than it looked in January of 2021.
In Vermilion County, the unemployment rate rose from 4.6% in December to 6.3% in January. Vermilion County’s rate stood at 8.2% in January of 2021.
The City of Danville’s jobless rate rose from 4.8% in December to 6.0% in January. Danville’s rate stood at 9.5% in January of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
In Vermilion County, non-farm employment has increased by over 200 jobs when comparing January of 2022 to January of 2021. Leisure and hospitality was up by over 300 jobs, and wholesale trade and government jobs were both up by over 100. Manufacturing had dropped by over 200 jobs from January of 2021 to 2022, while construction had dropped by over 100.
